How to Use the ChatGPT Widget on Android
An Android widget is now available for OpenAI’s ChatGPT app. It allows you to swiftly input suggestions using pictures, text, voice, or conversation mode inquiries; you may even add it to your home screen. Put it to use with our help.
The ChatGPT Home Screen Widget for Android
You can’t make this useful home screen widget until you update the ChatGPT Android app. The latest version is 1.2024.052, so make sure you upgrade before continuing. At the moment, the ChatGPT widget is available in only one size: 4×2.

- Lock your phone and then press and hold an empty spot on the Home screen for a few seconds.
- Choose Widgets from the list of possibilities down below.
- Enter “ChatGPT” into the search field.
- Place the ChatGPT widget anywhere you want on the Home screen by long-pressing on it and dragging.

- With the ChatGPT widget, all it takes is a single touch to input your inquiry. Start typing your prompt into the Message area on the ChatGPT widget to submit a text inquiry.
In order to use the camera or the picture icon to ask for a specific image, you’ll have to subscribe to ChatGPT Plus. To use voice commands, press the microphone symbol, and to switch to conversation mode, tap the headphones icon.

Your Android smartphone will automatically start the ChatGPT app in full screen if you touch anywhere on the widget. It seems the widget serves no use other than to launch the ChatGPT software on your mobile device. This is rather disappointing. The AI chatbot may have benefited from a more understated design.
Some good news: finding the ChatGPT app on your Android smartphone is no longer an issue. But if you already have a lot of widgets and applications on your Home screen, including Android, the ChatGPT widget can take up some extra real estate. However, if you need more space, you can simply create another Home screen page.
